Head (1968)

The strangest movie I've seen. I found out about this movie on tiktok, from the clip in the image above. Wow another old surrealist movie I thought. I read the caption. What is Head? And why were "The Monkees" in this? Aren't they that cheap Beatles knockoff? A few months go by and I keep seeing awesome fanart of the that movie. This movie must've been damn good to spawn fanart like that. This actually led watch the monkees TV show despite my intial dislike of them. (Sorry... I was brainwashed by the beatles...)

After binging 58 episodes in the span of 10 days, I finally watch Head. Just to preface: If you were to watch the show before this movie, you will get more context despite how jarring the difference in tone is. To summarize this show, (I yap about this show on my "60s" page, check it out later!) Struggling rock band gets into wacky adventures. Davy is the british heartthrob, Mike is the tall nonchalant "leader", Micky is the funny drummer, Peter is the "dumb" one

This movie has no plot, protests against the Vietnam war (which was happening at the time), and... philosophy. Its kind of hard to summarise this movie. But these main theme of it is the pop group trying to escape the containment of a black box (Literally), which is a metaphor of the NBC TV show. The soundtrack of this movie is a highlight, "Porpoise song" opens the movie with a sequence of Micky jumping of a bridge. "Circle Sky" is being performed live at a concert with screaming girls, overlayed with vietnam war footage. As someone who takes elective history, this movie was certainly something. The other songs in this movie are real good too.

You might think this movie is like the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour film. Well... they both have music segments I guess? Truthfully, the Beatles could never have made 'Head' ---
